Our first mother is the earth, from which comes all life. Our second mother is the woman who gave birth to us. And for Native peoples all across North America, there was (and still is in many places) a third mother, the cradleboard. To date, this series includes Apache, Arapaho, Nez Perce and Sioux cradleboards.
